The goal of the McDougall Program is to start you on a path of genuinely improved and lasting health. Through daily lectures and presentations, you will not only learn about what constitutes good health, but why certain foods and habits are healthy and why others are harmful. You will be encouraged to ask any and all questions of our doctors, dietitian, psychologist and staff while you're here. We want you to develop a strong understanding of good health in preparation for your return home and the continuation of your new lifestyle. You'll learn how to eat out while being true to your new way of eating, how to stock your kitchen with the tools you'll need every day and how to read food labels. You'll also enjoy cooking demonstrations so that you will be better prepared to do more of your own cooking at home. When you're not eating (we feed you a lot here) or at a lecture, you'll have the opportunity to sample and practice a variety of exercises to determine which one appeals to you most so that you can continue with it back home (including walking, yoga, swimming, weight training, or the latest dance craze, Zumba). During the program you will have two one-on-one medical appointments and two lab tests (one when you arrive and one right before you leave) so that you can see your progress on paper in addition to feeling it. Many participants are also happy to get off some or even all of their medications (and their unpleasant side effects) for good. We want you to learn how great it feels to take charge of your own health. We want you out of the medical business, and we want you to have the time of your life while you're here. We hope to see you at the next program!

Dr. Fuhrman is the author of the New York Times best-selling book, Eat to Live, as well as the inventor of the ANDI scoring system used in Whole Foods Market. Based on his own clinical findings and research, he created the nutritarian diet style, which resolves food addiction, overeating behavior and food cravings. According to Dr. Fuhrman, any diet style that does not address food addiction and "toxic" hunger or how to remove the emotional and physical triggers to overeating is doomed to fail. His program is adaptable for vegans and non-vegans, though the emphasis is on the immune-building and health properties of eating more anti-cancer plant foods in delicious ways.
